 What are signs?

Signs are the way we make sense of everything around us.

What is a denotation?

A denotation is the literal or original meaning of a sign. The sign is also called the signifier.

What is a Connotation?

Connotation communicates meaning based in the context. This is when signs have multiple meanings. The connotation is known as the signified.

What is the purpose of this assignment?

The purpose of this assignment was to pick three out of six images and analyze each sign and document the denotative meaning for each of the other task was to document four connotative meanings for each with two meanings based on these factors.

Introduction to Color in Film Preliminary Black/White/COOL

What is the objective of the assignment?

The objective of the assignment is to teach me the student and you the reader how to use visual cues such as color to better understand the tone, setting, story, and character's. This assignment also teaches us how to use these colors and sills for ourselves and in our own films.

What  is color in film?

Color can sent the overall tone of the film .For example the use of white can give a calming relaxed and safe tone while also giving a neural bare mysterious tone. Where black gives the tone of mystery and shadiness often used on characters who are evil or from mysterious decent.

List three codes

Black= Gives mystery and frightfulness to the story
Yellow= Gives energy and excitement to the story
Green=Gives a relaxed and at home feeling to the story.


Why is color in film important?

Color in film is important because it gives whatever the desired emotion is to the film and allows us the audience to feel better connected and Intune with the story and characters.


What did I learn?

I learned how to use these colors for my own films and better understood what each color mean how they reflect upon the audience and film.

Introduction to Color in Film Preliminary secondary colors

 What is the objective of this lesson? 

The objective of this lesson is to teach Me the student and you the reader how color affects the audience and the film and how these colors express emotion and tone.

Why  is color in film significant? 

Color in film is significant because it give's a tone to the film and and emotion to the audience and allows the audience to feel more connected with the story.

What are the three characters of film?

Purple= Gives off magical/calm feelings 

Orange= Hot, Calm and slow

Green= Fast, Relaxed and happy

Who is responsible for color?

Colorists are responsible for designing the color scheme of a film



What did i learn?
I learned how color can be used to manipulate the tone in film while also giving emotion to the characters and setting. This assignment also further helped me learn how differentiate visual clues to a films tone and genre.

Introduction to Color in Film Preliminary Exercise Primary

What is the objective of the post?

The objective of this post is to teach us the students and you the audience about how color affects the audience's mood and the film mood and how they correlate to each other by giving the setting more meaning and depth.

What is color in film?

Color can set the over all tone and mood of the film. For example, the use of red can give a romantic, angry, or scary tone which then can be applied to characters, settings, costumes, and camera frames to create a better understanding of the story and film.
Why is color in film significant to the audience?

Color in film is significant to the audience because it allows the audience to really grasp the  tone of the story and make them really feel as if they were there by giving them the same emotions and feelings as the characters.
